Root River Kayaking

Paddle the Driftless Area

Come along as we paddle the scenic and historic Driftless Area of southeastern Minnesota. Untouched by the glaciers of the last Ice Age, this region is characterized by its unique topography of steep hills, deep valleys, and limestone bluffs.  The Root River winds it way 80 miles through the Driftless Area to the Mississippi River.

Towns along they way including Lanesboro, Preston, and Peterson make charming rest stops with local restaurants, shops, galleries and museums.

Our favorite kayak trip is a two-day paddle starting in Lanesboro and ending in Peterson. Spend your evening resting under the stars and listening to the water from a picturesque, riverside campsite.  Other options include day paddles or two-night adventures.
